Founder & Professor

Yvette Nathalie Brown

Acclaimed herbalist, educator, and cultural preservationist dedicated to reviving and reimagining the ancestral wisdom of African herbal traditions.

Professor Yvette Nathalie Brown

As the founder of TUBHA, Professor Brown has cultivated a thriving learning space rooted in reverence, authenticity, and practical application — a school that has come to be known as “the HBCU of Herbalism.” As an alumna of an HBCU herself (Morgan State University), she understands the importance of creating safe spaces anchored in the pride of our rich history.

Born with an innate curiosity about the healing power of plants, Professor Brown's journey has been shaped by years of study with traditional family healers, contemporary herbal educators, and her own lived experiences. Through community teaching and apothecary work, she has helped countless individuals reconnect with their lineage and reclaim herbal knowledge as a vital aspect of cultural identity.

Her teachings emphasize integrity, safety, and a decolonized lens on herbal medicine — empowering students not only to use herbs effectively, but to honor the deep-rooted traditions behind them. Her work has been featured in grassroots herbal journals, podcasts, and conferences dedicated to African diasporic healing.

She continues her mission to uplift the legacy of African herbalism while guiding the next generation of healers, rootworkers, and medicine carriers — with wisdom, love, and deep respect for the plants and the ancestors who carried their stories forward.
